DALLAS, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's tennis team (3-2) split a pair of matches at T Bar M Racquet Club on Saturday.  A shorthanded Lady Rams squad defeated Howard Payne University (0-6) 6-3 before falling in a very narrow 5-4 contest against Southwestern College (KS) (4-0).
 
The Lady Rams were without the services of Emily Rodriguez and Laura Grunden who have regularly been playing No. 4 singles and Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.
  The top of the order stepped up in both matches.  Loli Garcia, Katy Foster, and Ema Segetlija went 6-0 on the day in singles.  Howard Payne took 4, 5, and 6 singles while the Rams swept all three doubles contests.

Against Southwestern, the Rams were just a few bounces away from taking the contest and handing the Moundbuilders their first loss of the season.  Ashton Willis and Heather Birge both went the distance before falling 10-8 in the third set on the 4th and 6th singles lines respectively.  Meanwhile Segetlija and Maggie Brasher were clipped 10-8 in No. 2 doubles.
 
The Lady Rams will travel to Sherman, TX, on Sunday, to take on College of the Ozarks (MO).  That match will be played at Austin College.
