Rams Take Series From Drovers, 2-1

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball club (RV) (15-7, 4-2 SAC) took two games from No.17 University of Science & Arts (18-9, 3-3 SAC) at Sycamore Park on Sunday. After dropping the first game of the series on Friday, the Rams rebounded with an 11-2 win in game one before holding on to a 5-3 win in game two.

In game one, the Rams put up a three spot in the second inning for a 3-1 lead. Caden Williams started the inning with a rocket into left field before Alex Gudac beat the pitcher on a bunt single to plate the first run. Garrett Crook launched one into deep right-center for a two RBI double to cap the drive.

Williams added another run on a double down the left field line before USAO starter Stephen Wright loaded the bases with one away in the inning. The Drovers sorted things out though, and Texas Wesleyan settled for a 4-1 advantage.

Luis Roman chased Wright out of the ball game after a two-run smash that cleared the right field wall to make it a 6-1 Ram lead in the fourth inning.

Julio Ibarra started a five-run rally in the sixth with a solo shot to left-center before Blake Seaton capped the inning with a RBI base hit in the right-center gap for an 11-2 lead that would turn into the final.

Stephen Yancey (3-2) worked 5.2 innings in the win. He surrendered two runs on seven hits, had four walks and four strikeouts. Crook went 2 for 3 with three RBI, Williams went 3 for 4 with one RBI, and Roman went 2 for 4 with two RBI in the win.

The Rams opened scoring in game two in the second inning after four straight hits, capped on an Aidan Laurini two RBI double down the left field line. Laurini would later score on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.

Roman sent another ball out of the park in the third, pushing the score to a 4-1 TXWES advantage.

The Rams took advantage of a pair of USAO errors to grab a 5-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh.

The Drovers put up a three run rally in the seventh, gaining momentum by loading the bases with just one away. Evan Walter worked a RBI walk before Randy Ventura hit a worm burner through the left side to score the second run. Christian Perez hit a chopper for a RBI groundout, but Texas Wesleyan would shut the door as Wade Regas got Dillon White to ground out to secure the win and take an important conference series away from Science & Arts.

Brad Sugg (2-0), who recorded a save in game one, started game two and got the win. He went 4.2 scoreless innings, allowed two hits, walked three, and sat down four. Gudac went 2 for 3. Laurini went 1 for 1 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Texas Wesleyan will travel to Shreveport, LA for a two game series with LSU-Shreveport. Game one of that series will take place on Tuesday, March 14 starting at 4:00 p.m.
