TEXARKANA, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's tennis team (6-3) dropped only one point while taking a pair of wins over regionally ranked opponents on Saturday. The Lady Rams, ranked second in the Unaffiliated Region (AII/RRAC/SAC), defeated No. 5 John Brow University (3-7) 8-1 and No. 3 Texas A&M-Texarkana (10-5) 9-0. Both matches were played on A&M-Texarkana's campus.
Against John Brown, the Rams dropped only No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-4. Meanwhile
Loli Garcia and
Katy Foster took care of the first line 8-1 and
Ema Segetlija and
Emily Rodriguez won No. 2 doubles 8-3. In singles, the Rams took easy wins on the top three lines, while
Ashton Willis,
Maggie Brasher, and
Laura Grunden battled to hard fought wins on the third, fourth and fifth lines.
Against TAMUT, the Rams were hardly slowed. Texas Wesleyan dropped three total games in doubles play and only 10 total games in six singles matches.
Sunday's contest with LSU-Shreveport has been canceled due to impending inclement weather in the area. The Rams will return to action on April 8, when, they take on Dallas Baptist University. That match is scheduled for a 9:00 a.m. start in Dallas.
