Rams Blank Wildcats In Dominant Double-Dip

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (38-11) held Wiley College (8-38) to just four total hits in two shutout wins (5-0, 9-0) at Sycamore Park on Tuesday.

In game one, the bats were quiet to start as just three hits between the two teams represented the first four and a half innings of play.

The scoring silence did not last for the Rams, putting together a five run rally in the fifth. Aidan Laurini led the inning with a two-bagger, and Casey Moses moved the runner to third before a wild pitch put the first run on the board.  Garrett Crook drove in the second run on an infield single deep in the hole at second. Blake Seaton reached on a single before Caden Williams emptied the bases bases on a no-doubter over the left field wall for a 5-0 advantage that would be the eventual final.

Evan Rogers (9-2) notched the win behind six scoreless innings. The righty ran rough shod through the Wiley hitters, allowing just two hits, three walks, while striking out four.

Williams was 2 for 3 with three RBI. Garrett Crook went 1 for 2 with a RBI and also threw out two runners trying to steal from his catching position.

In game two, the Rams opened scoring with a three run first inning. SAC Player of the Week Kiki Menendez singled home a run on a laser up the middle before stealing second, advancing to third, and later scoring after a couple of throwing errors on separate plays. Dylan Measells launched a RBI double to left center to cap the drive.

It was all Texas Wesleyan from there, as the Rams added a run in the third on a towering Luis Roman solo shot to right field.

Roman would later score on a successful double steal in fourth before Aidan Laurini drove in a run with a double down the left field line.

TXWES put up another crooked number in the fifth after four consecutive hits with one away. Williams smashed a two-run triple to the right-center wall before Moses added the ninth run on an opposite field double down the right field line.

The Rams also flashed a few impressive defensive plays to limit the Wildcats chances, the most impressive being a beautiful 4-6-3 turn in the sixth to end the inning.

Alex Davis (1-1) got the win after three scoreless innings of relief work. The junior from Livermore, CA allowed just one hit, one walk, while fanning three.

Menendez was 3 for 4 with a run batted in, two runs scored, and a pair of stolen bases. Roman went 2 for 3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Williams went 1 for 3 with a pair of RBI.

The Rams will continue their home stretch with Southwestern Christian University in a 9-inning game scheduled for Friday, April 28 starting at 3:00 p.m. at Sycamore Park.
