WAXAHACHIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (6-11, 4-5 SAC) owned the fourth quarter to earn their third straight with a 73-67 win over SAGU (6-9, 3-6 SAC) at the Sheaffer Center on Monday.
The Lady Rams and Lions got under way an hour ahead of schedule in preparation for the winter blast set to hit our fair burg tonight.
TXWES went 10 of 18 in a fourth quarter shootout, outscoring the home team by 11 points to seal the win.
SAGU maintained a decent sized lead in the first three frames, leading by as many as seven late in the third. Mackenzie Martin hit a three to make it a five-point Lady Lion advantage to start the fourth quarter, but
Alycia Louallen and the Lady Rams charged back with a vengeance.
Louallen hit a pull-up jumper in the paint with the foul to start a 12-0 rally that took just under three minutes of game time.
Lorian Benjamin got a steal on the next play, taking to the hoop after getting a pass back from Adriana Davis on the fast break. Benjamin and Davis each added a steal later in the drive that led to five more points, flipping the lead in favor of TXWES at 59-52.
The shell-shocked Lady Lions tried to recover, cutting the lead to two points with 37 seconds remaining on another Martin three, but
Nicole Gleason drove in the dagger on a short-range jumper and Texas Wesleyan closed out the game for the win.
Five Lady Rams posted double figures in scoring.
Falesha Fuller led the way with 14 points. Gleason posted 12 points.
Evie Whorley and Louallen had 11 points each, and
Lexi Burns finished with 10 points in the win.
