Lady Rams Race Past Tigers, 71-59

McPherson, KS: The Lady Rams women's basketball squad (3-10, 1-4 SAC) broke a seven-game losing skid after a 71-59 win over Central Christian College (1-12, 0-5 SAC) at the Dr. Jerry E Alexander Arena on Thursday.

The Lady Rams shot their season average (39 percent) while freshman Evie Whorley led the team in scoring for the second time this season with 13 points.

Texas Wesleyan dominated the second and third quarters from the floor, shooting 46 and 50 percent respectively. The Lady Rams were also plus18 in bench points, plus 15 in points in the paint, and plus 12 in fast break points.

The Tigers were held to 30 percent shooting for the game, while the Lady Rams picked the pocket of the Central Christian offense 13 times. TXWES is ranked 13 nationally in steals per game (12.083).

The Tigers established an eight-point lead deep into the opening stanza, but the Lady Rams got loose with an 11-0 rally to take a 16-13 edge into the early goings of the second quarter. Alycia Louallen was feeling it, contributing 11 points and two steals in just three minutes of game time.

Falesha Fuller went on a 6-0 scoring spree to give TXWES a 25-20 edge before the Lady Rams opened the flood gates. Texas Wesleyan posted another 11-0 run culminating in a Nicole Gleason three point play the old-fashioned way. That made it a 14-point game at 36-22, and TXWES took a nice advantage into halftime.

The Tigers clawed their way back to start the second half, cutting the Ram lead to just one point at 40-39 three and a half minutes in. Texas Wesleyan weathered the blow as Lorian Benjamin swiped a ball that led to a Whorley jumper and the foul. The Lady Rams vaulted the lead back up in the double digits to end the quarter.

Central Christian won the fourth quarter, but by just one point (15-14), not enough to make a dent in the Ram lead. TXWES cruised to 71-59 win, giving head coach Steve Trachier his first SAC win.

Adrianna Davis posted a career high 16 rebounds in the win. The junior from Dallas, TX added six points and five assists. Whorley tacked on nine boards and five assists on top of her team high 13 points. Louallen grabbed 11 points for the Lady Rams.
