PITTSBURG, Kan. – Freshmen Donavan Fuggit and James Guerra set school records in the 200 meter dash and 400 meter dash respectively, along with the rest of the Texas Wesleyan Men's Track team who competed at NCAA DII Pittsburg State's Crimson & Gold Invitational at the Robert W. Plaster Center on Saturday.
 
It was momentous day as the Rams featured five freshman and one sophomore taking part in their first collegiate track meet.
 
Guerra, a freshman from Fort Worth, set the tone in the first indoor track meet of the season, narrowly missing the national qualifying time in the 400 meter dash. Guerra sprinted to a 50.94 finish, just missing the NAIA "B" standard national qualifying time of 50.00. He did however, crush the previous school record in the event by 1.45 seconds. Guerra finished 19th among 40 runners from NCAA DII powerhouses.  
 
The record was previously held by Luis Macias's 52.39 set in the 2011-12 season.
 
Fuggit, a freshman from Dallas, flashed like lightning in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.80 and set the school record in the process. Fuggit bested another Luis Macias (23.56, 2011-12) time by 0.76 seconds. He also barely missed the NAIA "B" standard qualifying time of 22.38 by 0.42 seconds.
 
"[Guerra and Fuggit] posted a great times today, especially for freshmen in their first indoor track meet," commented head coach Nat Amare. "Congratulations to those two young men for setting school records, they will only get faster as we get further into the season."
 
Rhyan Reason posted a time a 7.37 in the 60 meter dash.
 
Alonso Reynoso tackled the 1 Mile Run in 4:46.11
 
Sophomore Tanner White and senior Nicholas Westfall took part in the 800 meter run. White crossed the finish line with a time of 2:04.19, while Westfall followed with a time a 2:05.72.
 
Fabian Vargas rounded out the evening in the 3,000 meter run, earning a time of 9:26.14.
