Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 BETHANY, OK - Texas Wesleyan Softball (15-21, 10-10 SAC) continues their climb up the conference standings after getting rid of Southwestern Christian (7-21, 3-15 SAC) 11-1 in Game 1 and 9-0 in Game 2, both battles completing in five innings.
Lacy Mann gave up just one hit, in the bottom of the first which drove in the only Eagle run of the day - a triple to center field. She struck out five of her 15 batter's faced and walked just two.
Makenna Aycock pitched a shutout in the second game with two hits allowed and six strikeouts.
The Rams defense has given up just 10 runs in their last eight games and earned their fourth shutout of 2019.Â
Hailey Hollingsworth and
Chyann Jarrett destroyed Southwestern Christian in Game 1. In the top of the second, Hollingsworth singled to left after
Taylor Sutton doubled to right-center to score her. Hollingworth did the same for
Lacy Mann after Mann's double in the third, putting a single through the left-side gap. Hollingsowrth put
Bailey Terry home in the fourth by talking a walk, part of a seven-run fourth frame.
Jarrett was just as efficient. Her single to left field scored the other two runs in the second. She singled again in the fourth to bring Sutton around. The two reached the infield on every at-bat.
Sutton (2-for-3) and
Jenna Rhoades (2-for-3) also had a multi-hit game. Rhoades followed up her first showing with another 2-for-3 outing minutes later, driving in two runs with a pair of singles. Rhoades may be averaging a .293 on the season, but in her last five games, her batting average is wrecking opposing pitchers - .428 with 5 RBI.
Terry was a perfect 2-for-2 with 3 RBI in Game 2, thanks to a double and a single after taking a walk and getting struck by a pitch. The Eagles probably should have kept preventing the Lady Rams' all-time home run hitter and RBI achiever from doing damage, it wouldn't have hurt as much.
ERRORS NO MORE
The errorless streak is up to eight. Texas Wesleyan has not committed an error in 63 innings, or the last eight contests. The Lady Rams are now committing just 1.11 errors per game and puts them in the top 40 in the NAIA.
STANDINGS UPDATE
TXWES has won seven of its last nine conference games and have elevated into the fifth spot. After splitting with MACU earlier this season, the 10-9 Evangels may have some trouble holding their fourth-place position down the stretch. The two were supposed to finish the season series last week but the doubleheader was rained out and moved to the end of the current 16-game road trip. SAGU sits in third (16-6) and powerhouses USAO and Oklahoma City are well in front. Still, TXWES Softball is finding themselves and playing their best softball of the season - even in losses, like their extra-innings heartbreaker against the unbeaten Drovers.
Texas Wesleyan has a game on Oklahoma Panhandle State and is a full four games ahead of Langston who sits in seventh.Â
WHAT'S NEXT
Rev the bus back up. The Lady Rams will continue their road trip Tuesday in Oklahoma City where TXWES will battle the Stars and complete their four-game slate against OCU this season. The Stars (34-4, 16-2 SAC). Texas Wesleyan could become just the third team in the last five seasons to beat the Stars on their home field.
