SB gears up for SAC Tourney

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Texas Wesleyan softball team will be the fifth-seed in the upcoming Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, which starts May 6-7 with the championship game taking place on May 8th in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The eight-team tournament is divided into two pools taking place at first-seed Oklahoma City and second-seed Science & Arts. The tournament title contest will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium featuring the teams that emerge from each pool.

In pool play, TXWES (16-20) will battle fourth-seed Southwestern Assemblies of God (24-18) on Thursday and immediately after play OCU. On Friday, the Lady Rams will face eighth-seed Central Christian (15-35).

On the other side of the bracket, USAO will host Langston, Mid-America Christian and Oklahoma Panhandle State.

The Lady Rams went 15-17 in the SAC this season with an injury riddled squad. TXWES has battled tough opponents with 12 active players on its roster who contributed significant innings.

Three players are batting over .300 in Brynna Foster (.368), Ashton Davis (.310) and Kylie Summers (.301).

Foster is a force at the plate, boasting a .538 slugging percentage. She leads the Rams with 43 hits and 25 RBI. Taylor Tubbs also puts in work at the dish, slugging .444 this season with 21 RBI.

Both Foster and Tubbs pitch for the Lady Rams and have contributed the most innings of the four on staff. Foster is 8-10 in the circle with a 4.89 ERA. Tubbs is 5-10, 1 save with a 3.99 ERA. She is also one of only four players in the league who have a 1.000 fielding percentage.

Madison Ortiz is 3-0 with a 3.77 ERA, and Brianna Gibbons got her first win in the regular season finale against Langston on Senior Day.

Kylie Summers is a jet around the basepaths, as she is No. 16 in the nation in stolen bases per game (.758) and No. 25 in total swiped bags (25).
