GOODWELL, Okla. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University men's and women's basketball programs have been forced to forfeit its upcoming games with Texas Wesleyan due to COVID-19. The two institutions were set to play at Anchor D. Arena tomorrow night.
The virus has disrupted nearly every facet of life resulting in delays, supply chain issues, and postponements and cancellations of everything from flights to dining. Sooner Athletic Conference basketball programs are feeling the effects of these disruptions. Between men's and women's basketball, nearly a dozen conference matchups have been postponed or forfeited as we head into mid-season.
The TXWES women's and men's basketball teams will plan for a meeting at Wayland Baptist on Saturday, Jan. 8 in Plainview, Texas at 2 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. respectively.
On the women's side, the Flying Queens sit atop the
SAC WBB leaderboard at 7-0 in conference play (15-1 overall), while the Lady Rams are a game behind at 6-1 (12-1 overall). WBU has won its last seven contests, while the Lady Rams are winners of five straight heading into the important matchup.
On the men's side, the Pioneers were forced to forfeit the last two games due to COVID-19, and have not played since suffering a 78-71 loss to Paul Quinn College (12-0) on Dec. 11. The Rams (12-3, 5-2 SAC) are coming off of a
big home win over Central Christian (10-3, 4-2 SAC) to stay near the top of the
SAC MBB standings, currently in third position.
