The Rams and Lady Rams cross-country runners competed in their last regular season meet before the SAC Championship today at the Mid-States Classic in Winfield, KS. Four men and four women competed at the meet for the TXWES group, so there were no team scores on either side.
Â
"We have our top lady runner still coming back from a foot injury, and our #6,7, 8 and 9 runners each had either a family commitment or other issue to deal with this weekend, so we decided to just run the #2,3,4 and 5 ladies at this meet. On the men's side, we added one more guy to the mix but will now add two more for the conference meet in two weeks," Head Coach
Randy Dalzell said.
Â
The four TXWES ladies finished well out of the 153 runners on the ladies' side.
Veronica Moreno was 33rd,
Haylee Bentley was 51st, Sarays Flores was 64th, and Ana Segura was72.
Â
"Had we run our #1 lady Ashlie McDonald on the front end of that group, we would have scored very well as a team at this meet, so they'll be ready to go for the SAC meet in two weeks. We'll also run Tootie Evans (#6), Jos Gonzalez (#7), and probably
Marylee Richard (#8) and
Sapida Abbasi (#9) if they're all healthy and ready to go," Dalzell said.
Â
For the Ram men at the meet, out of the 182 finishers, the Rams were led by
Jamon Smith, who finished 30th. The next finisher for the Rams was freshman
Martin Murillo in 74th place. After that, for the Rams was freshman
Francisco Segura in 123rd place, followed by Malachi Redhead in 174th place.
Â
"We'll add freshman
Nathan Buckeridge and senior Ajani Bridgewater to this group and have six guys run at the SAC meet in two weeks, so we'll score as a team at that meet," Dalzell said.
Â
The Rams run at the SAC Cross Country Championships on November 5 in Oklahoma City, hosted by Oklahoma City University.
