SILOAM SPRINGS — Texas Wesleyan University showcased individual grit at the Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday, with sophomore Korey Allen leading the men's side in sixth place overall and sophomore Juliana Molina pacing the women's lone entry in sixth as well, though the Rams finished fifth in the men's team standings and incomplete in the women's.
Allen clocked a time of 25:48.61 in the men's 8K race, anchoring Texas Wesleyan's scoring with sophomore Jovanni Rosas (27:06.75, 21st), freshman Sean Torres (27:13.61, 23rd), sophomore Jose Hernandez (31:13.94, 47th) and sophomore Roberto Jaimes (34:43.18, 54th). Freshman Kevin Preacher (35:26.80, 55th) and freshman Kameron Shelton (36:34.25, 57th) rounded out the Rams' efforts, while junior Malachi Grenardo-Redhead was disqualified. The team totaled 151 points.
On the women's side, Molina finished the 6K course in 22:24.86 but lacked enough teammates for a team score.
Oklahoma City dominated the men's team competition with 43 points, followed by host John Brown (71) and Mid-America Christian (78). Oklahoma City's junior Ayenew Devany won the individual title in 24:45.19, edging College of the Ozarks senior Tanner Bailey (24:46.16) and Rogers State sophomore Nathaneal Gibson (25:26.54).
Rogers State swept the women's team crown with 21 points, ahead of Oklahoma City (38) and NorthWest Arkansas Community College (102). Rogers State claimed the top two individual spots, with junior Amy Morefield winning in 21:58.73 and sophomore Jordan Wallace second in 22:06.41. Oklahoma City freshman Kenzi Readnour took third in 22:07.26.
The Rams will next compete in the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships on Nov. 8, back in Siloam Springs, AR.
