Corpus Christi, TX -Texas Wesleyan University's cross country teams opened their season at a competitive meet, facing off against strong programs like Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and SMU in the women's 4K and men's 6K races.
The Rams showed determination, with several athletes posting notable performances despite tough competition.
In the women's 4K, Texas Wesleyan's
Juliana Molina led the team, finishing 17th overall with a time of 16:13.8, averaging 6:31.7 per mile.
Elizabeth Duvall followed, clocking 21:57.6, while
Monique Hill rounded out the Rams' efforts with a time of 25:34.2.
The women's race was dominated by SMU, which took first with a team score of 27, followed closely by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with 30 points. Texas Wesleyan's women did not register a team score due to fielding fewer than five runners.
On the men's side, the Rams secured third place in the 6K with a team score of 66 points, trailing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (15 points) and TSC (61 points). Sophomore
Korey Allen paced Texas Wesleyan, finishing 10th overall with a time of 21:04.0, averaging 5:39.0 per mile.
Freshman
Sean Torres was close behind, taking 14th with a time of 21:37.0.
Jose Hernandez (23:56.6),
Kevin Preacher (27:55.7), and
Enrique Cabrera (27:59.8) also contributed to the team's effort, with
Roberto Jaimes (28:42.2) rounding out the scoring.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi swept the men's race, led by Mathayo Bundotich's winning time of 19:23.7. The Rams' third-place finish highlighted their potential as they build toward the rest of the season.
Texas Wesleyan's cross country teams will look to carry this momentum into their next meet at the University of Dallas XC Invitational on September 6.
