DALLAS – The Texas Wesleyan women's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by NCAA DII Dallas Baptist University at the Patriot Tennis Grandstand and Pavilion on Saturday morning.
With the loss, the Lady Rams stand 0-1 in the season , but looking forward to what is coming next.
"Our number one doubles team played extremely well despite the score, and we lost five games at deuce," said head coach
Angel Martinez. "We know that we have to do a better job at playing and finishing those points. Our singles play today was on point. We stayed in games but once again could not close out a lot of deuce games. DBU has a very fine team and we completed very well against them which is very encouraging for the rest of the season."
DBU clinched the doubles point when Caroline Hudson and Taylor Leslie defeated senior
Aurora Novati and junior
Thamara Pinto by a score of 6-1.
The Lady Patriots grabbed a 2-0 lead after Madison Stafford won against
Thamara Pinto by 6-2 / 6-3.
Grace Gaskings made it three when she defeated Lady Ram
Nicole Straznicky by 6-3 / 6-4, extending the DBU lead.
Finally, No. 4 Ira Vogelmann clinched the match for Dallas Baptist University by defeating
Kara Antonio 6-4 / 6-2 to seal the win.
Aurora Novati played one of the most remarkable matches of the day, being defeated by the No. 1 Lady Patriot Caroline Hudson 3-6 / 7-6(5) / 10-6. A close match that unfortunately Aurora could not close this time.
"My single match was tough," Aurora commented after her match. "After the first set she came back strong and was up until the tie break. She played better and changed her tactic. The third set was tough, I didn't have much energy while she was a bit better than me physically. We know that with DBU it's always hard, but I am happy for the good fight and can't wait to be back in court on Saturday."
The Lady Rams will host Concordia University Saturday, Feb. 12 at 10:00 a.m. at the Arlington Tennis Center.
