ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan men's tennis team got its second win of the season against NCAA DII Dallas Baptist University at Arlington Tennis Center on Monday.
With the win, Rams are currently standing 3-0 on the season, still undefeated.
"The men's team played outstanding today," commented men's coach Steve Foster. The Rams swept in doubles and won 5 of six singles matches to win 6-1. The Rams are 3-0 on the season."
TXWES got the first doubles win when Arthur Voiseux and Mathieu Vinet won 6-0 against Grant Mckenzie and Gabe Garrido #1 Doubles. Rams clinched and secured the first overall point when Lucas Diaz Freire and Jose Merino defeated Roman Hill and Bryce Skarya 6-1 #3 Doubles.
The Rams grabbed an early 2-0 overall score after Arthur Voiseux won against Ricardo Carvajalino by 6-4 / 6-3 #4 singles.
Few minutes after Arthur's win, Lucas Diaz Freire claimed the 3-0 by defeating Will Fiala 6-1 / 6-3.
Finally, Andres Gonzalez #5 Singles clinched the match for Texas Wesleyan University, defeating Roman Hill 6-4 / 6-3 and setting the win 4-0.
The Rams decided to play it all out, where Thibault Gasser lost 4-6 / 6-3 / 7-10 against Aaron Capone.
We saw a huge performance from Mathieu Vinet in a tough contest winning 6-2 / 6-7(5) / 10-6 in #1 singles.
MVP of the day was Pablo Olmedo, where after saving 3 match points got the win in his singles matchup. Olmedo on earning the clutch win, "The match I played today was quite challenging. At the beginning of the game, I lost my serve and started 4-2 down in the first set. Despite that, I managed to win the first set, 7-5. At the beginning of the second set, everything was normal until he broke my serve. I lost the second set 6-2. At the beginning of the super tiebreak, we started very even until I managed to get ahead 8-6, but then he came back 9/8, saving the first match point. At 9-10, I got to hold the second match point. On 11/10, I managed to keep the third match point. After that, I finally managed to win the match on 14/12."
The Texas Wesleyan Men's Tennis team will host the University of Mary Hardin Baylor this coming Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1:00 PM.
