JAMESTOWN, N.D. – (PDF Brackets) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) successfully hosted the first two sessions of the inaugural Women's Wrestling National Championships inside Harold Newman Arena. After Friday evening's bouts, Southern Oregon leads Life (Ga.) by 5.5 points. Grand View (Iowa) edges out Menlo (Calif.) by only one point for third place.
The Lady Rams have four wrestlers to advance to day two, including sophomore Jasmine Sands (109), junior Camile Fournier (116), senior Lexie Bashamv(130) and junior Mea Mohler (136).
- The 101 pound weight class went as seeded, with the Top Four into the Semifinal Rounds
- At 109, 5th seeded Jasmine Howard of Texas Wesleyan defeated fourth ranked Stefana Jelacic from Lourdes (Ohio) during Session II
- Ashley Gooman (Providence) Caitlyn Thorne (Central Methodist), Juliana Diaz (Missouri Baptist) and Camille Fournier (Texas Wesleyan) are still in the hunt for the title
- Ninth Seeded Larissa Kaz from Hastings (Neb.) upset the No. 8 seed in Arianna Maruffo of the hometown Jamestown Jimmies in the Quarterfinals
- Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp of Providence (Mont.) crashes the Semifinals after upsetting third ranked Skye Realin of Central Methodist (Mo.)
- At 136 pounds, the sixth and seventh seeds pulled off upsets of Erin Redford and Paige Respicio
- Two double digit seeds won in the opening round - Isabelle Hawley of Iowa Wesleyan and Desiree Jones from Menlo (Calif.)
- In the 155 pound weight class, the bouts went as seeded with the Top Four into the Semis
- Grand View teammates Abby McIntyre and Shenita Lawson faced each other in the Quarterfinals with McIntyre winning
- Jaycee Foeller of Central Methodist (Mo.) and Grace Kristoff from Southern Oregon have their eyes on more upsets on their way to the crown
