Marion, IN -
Tajean Houston won the men's 110 hurdles at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Marion, IN, becoming the first individual national champion in TXWES track and field history. Houston tied his personal best of 13.87 seconds to win the event.
Â
In the men's high jump,
Jamarrion Reed was the only jumper who cleared the first three heights on his first attempt and led the event going into the final bar at 6' 11" (2.11m). He almost cleared it on his third attempt, which would have given him the win and a second national champion for TXWES, but two other competitors cleared the bar at that height, moving him to third place overall. His third-place finish at 2.08m (6' 9.75") gives him his second All-American award this year. That mark tied his school record at 6' 9.75".
Â
In the men's 400 hurdles,
Aljani Bridgewater broke his school record and finished fourth overall in 51.84 seconds. That gave Bridgewater an All-American award to join his teammates. It also gave the TXWES men's team enough points to finish 13th overall in the men's team standings.
Â
In the women's races,
Jaelynn Williams set two new school records in the 100m and 200m qualifying rounds, then finished 7th overall in the 100m to earn All-American honors. Her times were 11.74 in the 100m and 24.14 in the 200m.
Â
Other school records or personal bests set at the meet included
Kelen Moran in the men's 110 hurdles qualifying, who ran 14.45 seconds for a new personal best, and the men's 4 x 100 relay of
Tajean Houston,
Victor Dahunsi,
Camden Martin, and
Jared Brackens, who ran 40.89 seconds to set a new school record. Moran just missed the final in the 110 hurdles, and the men's relay also missed getting to the final.
Â
"We had some very good performances at this national meet and placed well as a team," said Head Coach Randy Dalzell. "We got some valuable experience competing at the national level and came away with our first national champion and a handful of All-Americans, so it was a great start for this program. I think you'll see us keep coming back with better and better groups each year, and we're excited for the future of TXWES track and field."
