MT&F: Rams Welcome Coach David Cox to Staff

Fort Worth, TX - Head Coach Randy Dalzell announced the addition of specialty assistant coach David Cox to the Rams Track and Field staff this morning. Cox is a specialist in the decathlon, heptathlon, pole vault and hurdles, but has also coaches all the jumps and throws in previous positions. He has a wealth of experience as a collegiate athlete and a coach, having competed at Stephen F. Austin State University as a pole vaulter and long jumper and having coached for over 30 years at both the high school and college level. He has USTFCCCA certifications as both a jumps specialist and a technical specialist.
 
Coach Cox coached at Maypearl High School from 1993-1995, DeSoto High School from 1995-1999, Red Oak High School from 2000-2002, Waxahachie High School from 2002-2021 and most recently was the associate head coach at Southern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) from 2020-2023. He has coached many NAIA national qualifiers for SAGU in the decathlon, heptathlon, 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles. He also coached the male co-athletes of the meet for the 2023 SAC Conference meet.
 
Head Coach Randy spoke highly of his new colleague and believes His addition will no doubt lead to the development of the decathlon and heptathlon groups as well as the continued growth in the pole vault and hurdles.
 
"We are very fortunate and excited to have Coach Cox join our track and field staff," said Dalzell. "He is an excellent technical coach for several events. He has produced many multi-event national qualifiers and has been a leading coach in the SAC the last few years. He is an outstanding leader, mentor and Christian man.'
 
Coach Cox will immediately begin coordinating with the rest of the coaching staff which includes Head Coach Randy Dalzell, Sprints and Horizontal Jumps Coach Doc Patton and Throws Coach Duke Kicinski, who are all equally excited to have him on board next season. 
 
David Cox says his is eager to get to work with the athletes here at Texas Wesleyan and is excited to see what the future holds for the program.
 
"I am very grateful as well as excited to join the excellent staff Coach Dalzell has put together," said Cox. "They are an exciting program that has made a dramatic mark already in the SAC and the NAIA. The culture and competitiveness of the program is setting a new standard in the SAC and moving quickly to become one of the leading programs in the nation."
 
The Rams just completed the year with their first SAC men's team championship, a runner-up finish for the ladies in the SAC, six NAIA All-Americans (two indoor and four outdoor), a 13th place finish for the men as a team at nationals and their first NAIA National Champion (Tajean Houston in the men's 110 hurdles).
