T&F: Rams Hit Big Marks at Gorilla Classic and Break Multiple Records

Pittsburg, KS - The Texas Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams had a great two-day meet at the Pittsburg State University Gorilla Classic, hitting several new national qualifying marks and breaking multiple school records.

One of the most significant marks from the meet was hurdler Tajean Houston, who improved his already national leading mark in the men's 60m hurdles by finishing as the top collegian at the meet with a new personal best and new school record of 7.77 seconds. That is the best mark in the NAIA and is better than the national meet record of 7.80 seconds.

Another significant mark came from triple-jumper Josh Morris, who finished fourth overall with a new personal best of 14.89m (48' 10.25"). That mark is an automatic national qualifier, moves him to #4 in the NAIA, and sets another new school record.

The men's 4 x 400m relay team of Victor Dahunsi, Logan Rogers, Aljani Bridgewater, and Tyrece Grant finished 5th overall with a new school record and automatic national qualifying mark of 3:15.18. That mark moves them up to #5 in the nation for NAIA.

Another men's relay team, the distance medley relay team of Douglas Kiprotich, Logan Rogers, Jamon Smith, and Walid Jarfani, also set a new school record and provisional national qualifying mark of 10:12.47. That mark is currently #19 in the NAIA.

Tyrece Grant finished third overall in the men's 400m with a time of 47.55 seconds. He currently sits at #3 in the NAIA with a season-best of 47.32 seconds. Victor Dahunsi finished 22nd in the men's 400 at 49.52 seconds. Camden Martin finished 11th in the men's 60m dash with a time of 6.88 seconds.

"Our Men had a very good two days, netting another nice group of national qualifying marks and moving up in the national rankings in a number of events," said Head Coach Randy Dalzell.

On the women's side, Hasnae Goulamzi got a provisional national qualifying mark in the women's mile with a time of 5:07.47. Kenna Conner broke the school record in the women's 60m hurdles with a new personal best of 9.28 seconds. Jaelynn Williams finished 9th in the women's 60m dash with a time of 7.72 seconds. Sarays Flores had a 56-second improvement in the women's 5000m, running 18:43. Chioma Obi tied her personal best in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.59m (5' 2.5") for 6th place. Ashley McDonald set a new personal best in the women's 3000m with a time of 10:25.54 for 17th place. The women wrapped up the meet with a 4 x 400 relay time of 4:08.60 from Allison Dalzell, Lasharia Gordon, Jaelynn Williams, and Ashlei McDonald.

"The ladies had a nice meet with a number of personal bests and a few school records. They'll use the home meet next week to get a few more marks before we head to NAIA Indoor Nationals," said Dalzell.

The Rams host the TXWES NAIA Indoor Qualifier meet next Saturday, February 17, then head to the NAIA Indoor National Championships to wrap up the indoor season.
