Box Score 2 FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan Softball split the first two contests of the 2024 season on Thursday at home. The Rams dropped their first game to Kansas Wesleyan 3-4 and beat Central Baptist 3-2.
Against Kanas Wesleyan, Hailey Delarosa Would score first in the contest in the bottom of the first inning.
The Rams would hold this lead up until the bottom of the fifth inning where Kansas Wesleyan would hit a home Homer tie the game 1-1. With a runner already on base the Coyotes would send a ball out to left field that would give them the two base advantage and after another monster hit they would go on to take their first lead of the day at 2-1
Leading off in the bottom of the sixth,
Kylie Barnes would hit a ball out to right filed to take the base. An untimely error from Kansas Wesleyan would send Barnes to third base in position to score.
EB Zimmerman would step to the plate and fire off a hit
After a bobble and drop from the coyotes Barnes would score to the tie the game back up at 2-2 heading to the top of the 7th
Both teams would hold strong in the final inning of regulation and would send the game into extra innings.
KWU would get a quick score to hold a one-point advantage over the rams. At the bottom of the 8th Alyssa bates would bunt the ball on the first pitch to advance and send
Devin Dunn to third base. Burns would once again send a ball out to left field and the Rams would go on to tie the game back up after Dunn raced homed.
All tied now, the coyotes would come up with a double play to send the game into another extra inning leading 4-3 putting the pressure back on the Rams. Texas Wesleyan would do their best to close out the game, but Kansas Wesleyan was able to hold on to their lead to close out game one.
Game two would see the Rams take on the Mustangs of Central Baptist College. The Mustangs would get an early lead, scoring in the first inning of the game to take a 1-0 lead. Not to be out done, Texas Wesleyan would respond quick with another Barnes score to tie things up.
Central Baptist College would go on to score just one more time in the third inning, while Texas Wesleyan would score in both the fourth and fifth inning to take the a 3-2 lead. Barnes would add another hit and score for the Rams while her teammate
Devin Dunn would also come up big with a score in the win
The Rams are back in action Friday morning, as Texas Wesleyan faces Central Baptist College at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in a double header match up at Sycamore Park.
