Box Score 2 CHICKASHA, Okla. – The No. 6 Texas Wesleyan softball team competed in a highly competitive contest during game one of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Bill Smith Ballpark on Friday. The Rams would go to 11innings against No.3 Mid America Christian University and ultimately fall to the Evangels in a 5-4 loss after a walk-off single.
The Rams followed it up with another hard-fought battle against No. 7 Oklahoma Panhandle State University, taking game two 9-8.
GAME ONE
With neither team collecting runs first three frames, the Evangels would strike first in bottom of the fourth, hammering a solo shot over the fence to make it a 1-0 game. MACU would go on to score in the inning again setting the score to 2-0.
After MACU's pitcher would throw six no-hit innings,
Alyssa Bates would be the first Ram to get on base with a leadoff single followed by a
Jaelin Ornelas double to left put a pair of runners in scoring position.
Kylie Barnes would drop an RBI single down the right field line to make it a 2-1 game. With runners at the corners, Bird managed to slip a ground ball single through the left side to tie the game all up at 2-2.
Once again neither team posed as a scoring threat through the next three innings, Until Barnes would come up big with a two-run homer down the left field with one out in the top of the 11
th to give the Rams their first lead of the day at 4-2.
Despite Texas Wesleyan's best effort, they would lose the contest after MACU would muster up just enough offense to take game one 5-4.
In the loss, freshman pitcher
Kylie Barnes put together a stellar performance, going 10.2 innings and throwing 178 pitches. The previous longest outing also came in the SAC Tournament as Katie Long went 9.1 innings against Science & Arts on May 7, 2021.
Texas Wesleyan turned in four runs on six hits with two errors while Mid-America Christian scored its five runs on 11 hits and committed one error.
GAME TWO
Game two of the SAC Tournament proved to be another exciting match OPSU showed grit, pushing the Rams to the edge in another close contest.
The Rams took an early an 5-1 lead over the Aggies as they looked to survive being eliminated. OPSU would show grit and claw their way back into the game in the fourth inning. The Aggies would make things interesting when they took an 8-6 lead in the top of the sixth. With both teams facing a bus ride home, Texas Wesleyan would get the better of the Aggies as they would respond during the bottom half with a double, regaining the lead at 9-8 to close out the game.
Texas Wesleyan turned in nine runs on nine hits with zero errors while OPSU scored its eight runs on nine hits and committed three errors.
Texas Wesleyan will play against Mid-America Christian in a rematch elimination game today as the Ram will battle the Evangels at 12:45 p.m. at Bill Smith Ballpark. With a win the Rams would face the Drovers of USAO in the 3 p.m. game.
