FORT WORTH — The Texas Wesleyan University tennis teams delivered strong performances at the Marty Berryman Invitational over the weekend, competing in exhibition matches against a variety of NAIA, Division II, and junior college programs.
Women's Team Highlights
The Texas Wesleyan women's team excelled in doubles, securing victories against Collin College, Southern Arkansas, Texas A&M-Texarkana, and UT-Dallas. The pairings of Paulina Hudson and Zeynap Ege, Carla Arce-Fernandez and Kaja Brunzlow, and Shelby Standokes and Micaelli Magday all collected wins throughout the weekend. In singles, Zeynap Ege earned a victory against Collin College, while Carla Arce-Fernandez secured a notable win against Southern Arkansas.
Men's Team Highlights
The men's team showcased its depth, led by newcomer Yoni Danzic, who claimed a singles win against Collin College and teamed up with fellow newcomer Alejo Zurmendi for doubles victories against Southern Arkansas and UT-Dallas. Will Bayliss and Adriano Andrade also paired up for a doubles win against Southern Arkansas, as did Malte Sommer and Ahmed Elkassas. Bayliss further stood out with a significant singles victory against Collin College.
"A lot to unpack after this weekend," head coach Wade Morgan said. "I'm very happy with the effort and attitudes of a lot of our players, but we have some work to do on executing a game plan in certain moments throughout a match. We're getting better, though, which is fun to watch. Good things coming."
