WAXAHACHIE, TX - Texas Wesleyan University competed in the Sooner Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships in Waxahachie, TX held at Nelson University. The men ended up finishing fourth as a team with some standout performances, the women ended up finishing ninth in the final standings.
The men recorded seven podium finishes in their fourth place finish as they ammassed 103 points, just four points behind third place Oklahoma City University. Nelson secured the team win with 141 points, followed by Wayland Baptist with 113. The women had three podium finishes as they recorded 32 points as a team and finished ninth overall.
Some highlights from the men included first place finishes in the 200m and 400m from
Tyrece Grant, a first place finish in the 110m hurdles from
Jaiden Reed, a second place finish in the Javelin from
Luke Mason. Sophomore
Korey Allen finished top 10 in four different events to give the Rams several team points. Hayden Norwich continued his strong season with a first place finish in the shot put and a third place finish in the hammer throw.
On the women's side,
Kenna Conner finished on the podium once again as she finished third in the 100m hurdles, both Lasharia Gordon and
Kaitlyn Walker secured second place in their events a well to round out some standout performances for the women.
When asked about his team's showing assistant coach Troy Taylor stated "It's only my second year with these kids, but this is the hardest I've ever seen them compete and I couldn't be prouder of them. They left everything out there on the track, pit, ring, and field".
The Rams will run in the SMU Invitational on May 1-2 at SMU in Dallas, TX.
