DALLAS, TX – Texas Wesleyan University competed in the SMU Invitational over the weekend and showed out with several solid times and two more athletes to clinch a spot in the NAIA National Meet later in the month.
On the Men's side,
Tyrece Grant clinched his spot as the fifth fastest runner in the NAIA in the 200m with a time of 20.97, placing first in the meet. Hayden Norwich, a fellow NAIA National Meet Qualifier, placed in two different events as he finished seventh in Shot Put with a distance of 16.39m as well a ninth-place finish in discus with a distance of 43.87m.
Korey Allen secured his spot in the NAIA National Meet for the first time with his qualifying time of 9:21.39 in the 3000m Steeplechase, that time is a new personal record and ranks him 17
th in the NAIA National Rankings.
Some other notable performances for the Rams included
Luke Mason as he finished fourth in Javelin with a distance of 53.16m on his best throw.
Xavier Perez achieved a personal best as he recorded 12.55m on the shot put and finished 12
th overall.
Abdiel Pabon also achieved a personal best in the 400m with a time of 55.39 and placed 26
th.
On the women's side, the Rams got their fourth National qualifier with Lasharia Gordon in the 400m as she recorded a time of 55.72, helping her reach a new personal best and placing her 16
th in the NAIA. Gordon also placed 12
th in the 200m with a time of 24.76, another personal best for her to round out her meet.
Morgan Shelton was the other runner for Texas Wesleyan as she finished 36
th in the 100m with a time of 13.10 as well as a recording a solid time in the 200m with a time of 27.23.
The Rams will travel to the NAIA National Meet on May 20 and will bring four individuals who qualified for the meet:
Tyrece Grant – 200m
Hayden Norwich – Shot Put
Korey Allen – 3000m Steeplechase
Lasharia Gordon – 400m
