Saints Sink Rams in Quarterfinals

Box Score Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (11-6-2) saw its season come to a close on Saturday.  The fifth seeded Rams fell 1-0 at fourth seeded Our Lady of the Lake University (12-5-2) in Red River Athletic Conference quarterfinal action.

In the 16th minute, OLLU’s Brandon Head found Steven Salinas for what proved to be the only goal of the game.

The shutout was just the third of the season for Texas Wesleyan.  However, two of those blankings came at the hands of the Saints, who also took a 2-0 win in Fort Worth earlier this season.

On Saturday, the Saints held the advantage in shots, 16-7.  The game saw 48 fouls and six yellow cards with the Rams catching 25 whistles and four cards.

Dejan Milosevic came up with six saves in the loss, while Marco Herrera stopped all four of Texas Wesleyan’s shots on goal.

"I am very proud of this group," commented head coach Tyler Powell.  "They have gone from four wins to a conference competitor in one season.  We are sad that the four seniors had to end their career this way, but we are thankful for their contribution to the program and wish them luck in their future endeavors.  We are also excited about the future with such a large and talented group coming back."

The loss ends a very solid season for the Rams.  Their 11-6-2 record was a seven game improvement over the previous season.  Eleven victories matched the program’s highest total since 2003 (12-6-1).
