STEPHENVILLE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (5-6) suffered a narrow 4-3 loss at Tarleton State University (6-2) on Tuesday.
Tarleton cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the first when Chris Cassaza drew a two-out walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single from Reagan Janda.
TSU’s Tim Rainey doubled and scored in the fourth and the Texans pushed back ahead in the fifth with an RBI double from Mark Jeffery.
The Rams tied the game in the seventh, when
Chris Arocha singled, advanced to second on a sac bunt from Snider and scored on a single from
Taylor Jockers.
In the bottom of the eighth, TSU’s Landon McCall drew a walk with two outs. He stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error and then scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
Ryan Turner (3-0), who was the eighth pitcher of the day for Tarleton, picked up the win with 1.1 scoreless innings.
Nolan Barbee (1-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing one unearned run without allowing a hit in 1.1 innings of work.
The Rams will return to action on Friday, when they travel to Hawkins, TX, for a three-game RRAC series with Jarvis Christian College. Friday’s game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start with Saturday’s doubleheader scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
