Box Score - Game One
Box Score - Game Two

TYLER, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (20-11, 13-4 RRAC) improved to 5-1 in Red River Athletic Conference series this season by splitting a doubleheader at Texas College on Saturday. The Rams took game one 4-3 before falling 6-5 in the nightcap.

With the game one win, the Rams also hit the 20-win plateau for the seventh consecutive season under the direction of head coach Mike Jeffcoat.

The Steers got an unearned run in the first inning, and the Rams tied the game in the third when Christian Soberanes tripled and scored.

RBI singles from Eric Epperson and Soberanes in the fourth pushed the score to 3-1, but Texas College inched closer with an RBI single from Casey O’Reilly in the fifth inning.

In the seventh, the Rams added an important insurance run when Soberanes singled and later scored on a sac fly from Stephen Niedwiecki. In the bottom of the inning, two Texas Wesleyan errors let a run in and put the tying run at third base with two outs, but Patrick Stanley shut the door with a game ending fly ball.

Colton Farrar (3-2) picked up the win after allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out five in five innings. Stanley notched his seventh save of the season by allowing just one unearned run in two innings of work.

Epperson and Soberanes both went 3-for-3 in the win.

In game two, the Rams put together a big second inning. With one out, Glen Morrison and Epperson got things started with back-to-back doubles. Justin Snider then ripped a two-run single. Three batters later, Taylor Jockers added a two-run single and the Rams led 4-0.

The Steers cut the gap to 4-2 with a run scoring triple from George Rose followed by a single from Matt McEuen. Texas College took a 5-4 lead in the third with three runs on four hits including RBI doubles from Jeremy Bueno and Cory Amerson.

Epperson led off the sixth inning with a double for the Rams. After a single from Snider, Jason Holmes tied the game with an RBI single. The Rams had runners at the corners with one out, but Texas College got out of the jam by turning a rocket off the bat of Jockers into a 4-6-3 double play.

The game remained tied and appeared destined for extra innings after the Rams recorded two quick outs in the bottom of the ninth. However, Agustin Enriquez doubled to right and then scored the game-winning run when the throw into the infield got away from the Rams.

Jacob Lyons (0-1) was the tough-luck loser after tossing 4.2 very strong innings. Lyons allowed one unearned run on three hits while striking out three. Jared Duncan (3-3) got the win after throwing two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two.

Hunter Robinson, Epperson, Snider, and Holmes all went 2-for-4 at the plate in the loss.

The Rams will return to action on Monday, when they travel to Dallas, TX, for a doubleheader with Dallas Christian College. Game one is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
