Box Score
RICHARDSON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (28-19) suffered a 12-3 loss at the hands of the University of Texas at Dallas (22-12) on Wednesday.
Three first inning walks set the wrong tone for the Rams. The walks combined with three singles staked the comets to a quick 4-0 lead. Two more walks and two more singles made it 7-0 in the fourth inning.
The Comets came right back in the bottom of the inning and squashed any idea of a comeback by plating three runs on five hits including an RBI double from Joseph Killgore.
Christian Soberanes singled and scored in the sixth, but it was not enough to get back in the game. UTD added an unearned tally in the seventh and an RBI single from Chase Brown in the eighth to account for the 12-3 final score.
Andrew Cooper (1-2) took the loss after allowing four runs on three hits in the first inning. Cameron Brown (3-1) worked five innings, allowing two runs on five hits for the win.
Jockers and Soberanes both went 2-for-4 at the plate in the loss.
The Rams will return to action with a three-game series against the University of Houston-Victoria this weekend. Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start with Sunday’s doubleheader set for a 12:00 p.m. start.
