MUSKOGEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (9-1, 1-0 RRAC) took a 3-1 win in their Red River Athletic Conference season opener at Bacone College (4-4, 0-1) on Thursday.
Bacone scored first with a goal from Demi Barai in the 21st minute, and the Lady Warriors took that 1-0 lead all the way to halftime.
Texas Wesleyan came out with a better effort in the second half.
Jessica Watton got the Rams on track with an unassisted tally just 2:59 into the second half. In the 61st minute, Watton found
Karissa Olson for the eventual game-winner.
Paige Wheaton tacked on a goal off an assist from
Kaeley Albus in the 80th minute.
For the game, Bacone outshot Texas Wesleyan 15-14, while both teams had eight shots on goal. The Lady Rams took 10 of their 14 shots in the second half. Texas Wesleyan had three corner kick opportunities to Bacone’s one. The Rams were whistled for nine fouls, while the Warriors were penalized just five times.
“We’ve had a pretty rough week and came out slow,” said head coach Josh Gibbs. “It’s a testament to the girls that they came out and dominated the way they did in the second half.”
The Rams have little time to recover. They will jump right back into action with a fourth consecutive road game on Saturday, when they travel to Tyler Texas to take on Texas College. That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
