FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (3-1) took an 11-4 loss to Oklahoma City University (5-0) at LaGrave Field on Tuesday.
Alex Padilla got the Rams started with a lead-off home run smash over the left field wall to take a 1-0 lead after one inning of play.
The Stars answered in the next half inning on a two out double down the right field line by Chris Munoz to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead. Oklahoma City extended the lead in the third with a Forrest Smith homer to right center to make it 4-1.
David Kiriakos made it a 2-4 game in the bottom of the third with a RBI line drive shot to right center that just missed the glove of a diving Cody Ferrell. Henry Yates got the Rams within one at 4-3 off of a fielder’s choice RBI. Charles Tabone put runners at first and third with a two out single to right center, setting up Yates scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game at four apiece.
The Stars wasted no time in breaking the tie as lead-off batter Chris Munoz knocked a home run past the right field fence for a 5-4 advantage.
Smith hit another home run well over the fight field wall for Oklahoma City in the fifth. Braden Brumley put down a sacrifice RBI bunt to plate another run, and Munoz came through again with a bloop RBI single to left field in a 3 run inning to extend the advantage to 8-4.
Oklahoma City picked up two runs in the seventh on a Walker Davidson two out, two RBI triple the opposite way down the right field line. Chase Jensen knocked in a run with a shot to deep right field, but a good 9-4-2 relay stopped the second run from scoring to stop the bleeding to a three run inning for an 11-4 Stars lead.
The two teams played two scoreless innings to finish the game, as the Stars got the 11-4 win to stay undefeated. Sean Simonz (1-1) picked up the loss tossing four innings. He gave up seven hits, gave up five earned runs on one walk with six strikeouts.
The Rams will play Sterling College (KS) on Friday, February 8. The double header will start at 1:30 PM at La Grave Field.
