Baseball vs. Sterling 2.8.13 Gallery
FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (5-1) earned a pair of wins against Sterling College (3-3) at LaGrave Field on Friday. The Rams won game one 4-0 before taking a 3-0 win in game two.
In game one the Rams received a gift off of an errant throw out of play that allowed Wesleyan to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Alex Padilla hit a sacrifice fly to center in the fourth to make a 2-0 lead for the Rams.
Texas Wesleyan put up a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Jake Howeth hit a RBI single through the left side, and Padilla hit another sacrifice fly to plate
Christopher Arocha to make it 4-0 Rams.
The Rams shut down the Warriors in the seventh to take the 4-0 game one win.
Nolan Barbee (2-0) got his second win of the season. Barbee pitched seven scoreless innings, surrendered only two hits to go along with two walks and five strikeouts.
In the second game, the Rams got on the board in the second inning with a Howeth RBI sacrifice fly to right field to make it a 1-0 lead.
Joel Rickman scored on heads-up play after a wild pitch went all the way to the backstop, taking the lead to 2-0 Wesleyan.
Dusty Harper gave the Rams control in the fifth inning with a two out RBI single into shallow left field to give the Wesleyan a 3-0 lead.
The Rams defense shut down the Warriors again to take a 3-0 win.
Sam Martin (2-0) tossed six scoreless innings to go along with no walks and five strikeouts in the win.
The Rams hit the road to take on Texas Lutheran University in a double header on Sunday, February 9 starting at noon.
