Â
It was a night in which both teams struggled to limit the errors, SGU racked up 52, while had TXWES 28. The Lady Rams cancelled out the mistakes with top notch serving, outscoring the conference leader in aces 15-2, and quality defense, going +7 in digs.
Â
The Lady Rams made short work of getting a long lead on Cavaliers to start the match, posting a 13-2 run for a lop-sided 21-6 lead. SGU could only get four more back before
Brittni Mohle put the set away.
Â
The Cavaliers held a four-point, 14-10 edge in second set before the Rams flipped the scale with a 7-1 rally capped on consecutive aces from
Shelby Stinnett. SGU found some life behind a late 7-2 charge in which four different Cavaliers scored to steal the second set, 25-23.
Â
TXWES reset in the third set with 5-0 rally to start, capped by a pair of
Brianna Jaramillo strikes. The lead grew to 14-3 after a
Sasha Robinson service ace. The Rams continued to overwhelm the home team, taking the set on a
Tierra Coverson kill.
Â
The Lady Rams did the same thing in the fourth, starting with another 5-0 run capped by another Jaramillo smash. The lead was extended to 11 on a
Dana Lohrke spike before
Hannah Altman ended the match on her sixth ace of the night.
Â
The 15 aces produced by the team is a season high, and the last time the team hit that mark was August 22, 2015, in a straight set win over Langston University. The program record for aces in a match is 31, set at Jarvis Christian in 2007.
Â
Hannah Altman out-performed her break-out match a week ago against Central Christian with a fantastic outing tonight.
