WESTWORTH VILLAGE, TX – The Texas Wesleyan University women's golf team finished nine strokes ahead of Western Texas College Tuesday afternoon to win the season opener at Hawks Creek Golf Course.
Joely Henderson and
Brooke Sullivan led a deep Rams squad with fourth and fifth place finishes respectively, landing on themselves on the All-Tournament team.
Seven of the nine colleges and universities represented at the tournament shot their worst round Tuesday in the spitting rain, but Texas Wesleyan still managed to increase their lead over Western Texas CC by four strokes.
Henderson led all players in the tournament with nine birdies.
Aubrey Zastoupil finished eighth overall (+19). The steady
Emily Hunt tied three other players for tenth, hitting a 79 today, after 80 and 79 rounds on day one.
Murray State Community College's Rian Moores and Western Texas CC's Kiana Oshiro both shot a +8 to finish as the Intercollegiate's top two players, but didn't get as much help from their supporting casts.
Elena Sinde Romero finished 22nd to round out the Rams performance, while medalists
Jaci Trotter finished 21st,
Madalyn Fee 25th and Quinn Baker tied for 36th.
McLennan Community College and Murray State CC finished tied for third, 18 strokes behind Western Texas.
WHAT'S NEXT:
Women's golf has a month off official competition before heading to the Golf Club of Dallas for the DBU Golf Classic, hosted by Dallas Baptist University Oct. 8-9.
