VICTORIA, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan women's golf team ran away with a team victory at the Claud Jacobs Invitational at The Club at Colony Creek.
Emily Hunt took the individual crown, finishing Even par.
The Women's Golf program now boasts nine team victories all-time. The team score of 598 is good enough for third lowest all-time in 36-hole tournaments.
"I'm so proud of
Emily Hunt and
Brooke Sullivan for firing their first collegiate competitive rounds under par, and for Emily's first collegiate win," commented head coach
Kevin Millikan. "She (Hunt) finished third and second the last two seasons, so this was great validation for her"
Hunt becomes just the third women's golf student-athlete to win a tournament for the Lady Rams. However, it is the 11th individual victory for the program.
Former Ram Phenom
Alex Schies, who now coaches golf at UT-Arlington, has eight tournament wins, followed by Long Drive Tour pro Alexis Belton with two.
Hunt led the back in Par 3 and Par 5 scoring, at Even and 3-under respectively. She tallied seven birdies and 22 par in the 36-hole tournament.
Brooke Sullivan was excellent today, shooting 1-under. She shaved 13 strokes off of her first round, and leap-frogged 15 spots to finish in a share for eighth.
Piper Frisbie improved on her solid first round with 2-over 74 final round. She led the field of 30 in Par 4 scoring, shooting Even par. She added six birdies to her scorecard.
Joely Henderson finished in a share of the fifth spot, and tacked on five birdies during the tournament.
Aubrey Zastoupil, competing as a medalist, turned a solid performance as well. She finished in a share for eighth with teammate Sullivan.
