NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – The No. 19 Texas Wesleyan Women's Golf team improved by 31 strokes in the final round and pranced to a dominating win at the BU Spring Break Classic on Monday.
Brooke Sullivan and
Joely Henderson finished as co-winners with a two-round score of 152 on the 71-par Landa Park Golf Course.
The Lady Rams won by 30 strokes, with Wayland Baptist finishing a distant second.
Four Lady Rams improved by an average of nearly 8 strokes to finish in the top four spots in the Bellevue University (Neb.) hosted tournament.
The Bruins (RV) finished third, in front of Houston – Victoria in fourth and Friends (Kan.) in fifth.
Sullivan shaved eight strokes off her first round score to shoot 72 on the day, while Henderson improved by four strokes with a 3-over 74.
Emily Hunt climbed eight spots to finish third, tying Sullivan for the lowest round of the tourney with a 1-over, 72.
Piper Frisbie hopped two spots and took a share of fourth with a final round of 4-over.
Aubrey Zastoupil took the 15th spot, while
Madalyn Fee finished in a share of 13th competing as an individual medalist.
The team wins its second consecutive tournament and third of the season. This is the 10th tournament win for the program all-time. Sullivan and Henderson become the fourth and fifth golfers to win a tournament in program history.
Up next for the Lady Rams is the Battle at Primm in Nevada. Round one of the two-day, 36-hole tournament is set for Monday, March 16 at Primm Valley Golf Club.
