Tennis breezes to win over USW

The men won 7-0, while the women won 5-2

FORT WORTH, Texas - In the first home match of the spring season, Texas Wesleyan tennis breezed to victory on a windy day over the University of the Southwest at Arlington Tennis Center on Tuesday. The men's team blanked the Mustangs 7-0, while the women won 5-2.

The Rams took two double matches by scores of 6-4, while the third doubles match was won due to USW not having a doubles partner for Julian Cardova.

Arthur Voiseux gutted out a clutch win over David Rojas in the singles 1's match, 6-1, 2-6, 1-0. That would be the closest match of the day as the rest of the Rams dominated thier opponents.

On the women's side, the Lady Rams swept its doubles matches, with Cecilia Salazar and Mae Covacevich upending USW's Melanie Guzman and Aliyah Padilla in a 7-5 win, the closest doubles match of the day.

The Mustangs managed to grab two points, but the match was well in hand in favor of the Lady Rams despite it. USW's Kea Sandoval won a tightly contested match over Caitlyn Souvannavong, 6-4, 6-7(4).

Both the men's and women's teams improved to 2-0 on the season with the wins.

Next up, TXWES Tennis will travel to Alexandria, Texas to take part in the LSU-A tournament. The tournament is set to start on Thursday, February 25.
