Head Coach Randy Dalzell announced the signing of two-time Moroccan Junior National 1500m Champion Walid Jarfani. Jarfani is 18 years old and graduated from ALLAL AL FASI Qualifying Secondary School on June 29, 2022. He won the 2021 and 2022 Moroccan Junior National Athletics Championships 1500m races and is also a very competitive 800m runner. Jarfani placed 5th in the World Secondary School Athletics Championships 1500m in France and 3rd in the Arab Junior Athletics Championships 1500m in Tunisia. His bests are 3:46 in the 1500 and 1:51 in the 800m. He will be a freshman business administration major starting in January 2023 at Texas Wesleyan University. He will compete in all three sports indoor track and field, outdoor track and field and cross country.
 
"Walid is another great addition to our growing men's track and field/cross country program. He is an outstanding middle-distance runner who competed at a high level in his club athletics teams during high school, achieving two Moroccan Junior National Championships and competing very well at other junior world championships," Dalzell said. "He also worked very hard to achieve his English competency and get admitted here for the spring semester, showing a lot of determination and hard work beyond his rigorous athletic training. We look forward to integrating him into our men's middle and long-distance training group for indoor and outdoor track this semester."
 
The Rams will compete at the Texas Tech University Corky Classic indoor meet on January 13 and 14.
