T&F: Rams Hit Big Marks on the Track and in the Field at Warhawk Classic

On Saturday, the Texas Wesleyan men's and women's track and field teams had a big day in Abilene at the McMurry University Warhawk Classic. 

The Rams achieved five new NAIA National Qualifying marks, set nine new school records and won seven events at the meet, which featured 14 teams, including Abilene Christian University, Angelo State University, Concordia University (TX), University of Dallas, Hardin-Simmons University, Huston-Tillotson University, McMurry University, Paul Quinn College, Ranger College, Schreiner University, Southwestern University (TX), St. Edward's University, Texas Lutheran University, Texas Wesleyan University and UT-Dallas.
 
"This has become a large, highly competitive meet over the last two years and that has really raised the level of performances for all the teams here," said Head Coach Randy Dalzell. "We had a great day and posted some great marks on the track and in the field today."
 
Tajean Houston won the men's 110m hurdles in 13.87 seconds, leading the way with the new national qualifying marks. That time jumps Houston right up to #1 in the nation on the NAIA list and sets a new school record.

In the same race, freshman hurdler Kelen Moran also set a personal best of 14.71 seconds, finishing 4th overall and getting an NAIA B standard national qualifying mark. Right after that, high jumper Jamarrion Reed won the men's high jump at 2.08m (6' 9.75"), another NAIA A standard mark that moved him up to #2 in the nation for NAIA and is also a new school record. 

Back on the track, Tajean Houston, Victor Dahunsi, Camden Martin and Jared Brackens won the men's 4 x 100m relay in a blazing time of 41.16 seconds, crushing their previous school record, getting an NAIA A standard qualifying time and moving to #16 in the nation for NAIA. 

Also on the track, Aljani Bridgewater won the men's 400m hurdles in a new school record time of 52.79 seconds, giving him a new NAIA A standard mark and moving him up to #4 in the nation for NAIA.
 
Other event winners for Texas Wesleyan were Sarays Flores, who won the women's 10,000m in 41:22, Francisco Segura, who won the men's 3000m steeplechase in 10:51.20 and Christian Franklin, who won the men's 800m in 1:55.32. Flores's mark moves her to #1 in the SAC, while Segura's mark moves him to #5 in the SAC and Franklin's mark moves him to #6 in the SAC. 

The women's 4 x 400 relay of Alysa Henderson, Lasharia Gordon, Ashlei McDonald and Allison Dalzell also won their event and set a new school record of 4:06.21 seconds. That time is #1 in the SAC.
 
Other events where new school records were set included Lasharia Gordon in the women's 400m hurdles, who finished second overall in 1:05.57 seconds. That time is #1 in the SAC. 

Also setting a new school record was Jeremiah Holland in the men's hammer with a mark of 23.98m and Trinnity Reese in the women's hammer with a mark of 25.16m. Holland's mark moves him to #4 in the SAC and Reese's mark moves her to #7 in the SAC.
 
A number of other highly competitive marks were achieved at the meet for the Rams. Ashlei McDonald finished second in the women's 800m in 2:18.56, which moves her up to #2 in the SAC. 

In the men's 100m, Camden Martin ran 10.67 seconds to tie his school record and move up to #4 in the SAC. Also, in the men's 100m, Jared Brackens ran 10.72 seconds and his brother Jarod Brackens ran 10.97 seconds. 

Those marks moved them to #5 and #14 in the SAC. In the men's high jump, Skyler Larson set a new personal best of 1.95m (6' 4.75") to move up to #2 in the SAC.

In the women's high jump, Ariadna Garza jumped a new personal best of 1.50m (4' 11") to move up to #2 in the SAC. Camden Martin jumped 6.73m (22' 1") in the men's long jump to move up to #2 in the SAC. 

Also, in the men's long jump Malik Edwards jumped 6.54m (21' 5.5") to move up to #5 in the SAC and Michael Zarcone jumped 6.38m (20' 11.25") to move up to #7 in the SAC.

 In the men's 200m, Jarod Brackens ran a new personal best of 22.21 seconds to move up to #10 in the SAC. In the men's 800m, Jamon Smith ran 1:57.60 to move up to #10 in the SAC.

 In the women's 400m, Allison Dalzell ran a new personal best of 1:01.22 seconds to move up to #5 in the SAC. In the men's 10,000m, Martin Murillo ran a new personal best of 35:25.36 seconds to move up to #3 in the SAC.
 
The Rams head to Langston University in Oklahoma next Saturday, April 22, for the Lion Open.
