WGOLF: Junkin Claims Medalist Honors as Rams Finish Second at Battle at Winter Creek

BLANCHARD Makena Junkin of Texas Wesleyan shot a 1-over total to win medalist honors at the Battle at Winter Creek and her second victory of the season, leading the Rams to a narrow runner-up finish in the tournament at Winter Creek Golf & Country Club, hosted by USAO.

Junkin posted rounds of 70, 72 and 75 for the victory, two strokes ahead of Oklahoma City's Logan Allen at +3. Teammate Sofia Gorgees Baeta tied for ninth at +16 (75, 78, 79), while Natalie Miksovska (77, 79, 79) finished 11th at +19 and Lucia Larruscain(76, 76, 88)  tied for 13th at +24. Jordan Pillay t(80, 83, 82) ied for 21st at +29, and individual competitor Corrina Griffin placed 20th at +28 (81, 83, 80).

Texas Wesleyan totaled +54 across rounds of +10, +17 and +27 to finish one stroke behind champion Blinn (Texas) at +53 (+23, +22, +8). USAO and Oklahoma City tied for third at +75, with Redlands Community College rounding out the top five at +81.

The Rams will close out the fall season at the Roadrunner Classic on Oct. 20-21 in Dalton, GA, at the Dalton Golf and Country Club.
