WGOLF: Junkin Win Ties for Most Individual Wins in Program History

WEST PALM BEACH — Makena Junkin of Texas Wesleyan fired a final-round 71 Monday to claim medalist honors at the Kona Ice Keiser Kup, her eighth individual collegiate victory and one that ties her for the most in program history with Alex Schies (2015-18).

Junkin, who opened with rounds of 77 and 74, finished at 6-over-par 222 on the par-72 Okeeheelee Golf Course (Heron/Eagle layout). She won by three strokes over Jessica Danckwerth of Palm Beach State (225). Luz Maria Ardila and Linda Stamm of Keiser tied for third at 226.

The performance capped a strong showing for the Rams, who finished second in the team standings with a three-round total of 923 (+59). Host and top-ranked Keiser won the team title at 908 (+44), 15 strokes ahead of Texas Wesleyan. Palm Beach State placed third at 946 (+82).

Junkin's closing 71 was the low round of the tournament among the field's top finishers and helped Texas Wesleyan keep pace with the defending national champions despite Keiser's depth — the Seahawks placed four players in the top 10.

The three-day event concluded Tuesday after 54 holes of stroke play. Texas Wesleyan returns to action later this month.
