WGOLF: Third Time is the Charm for Junkin and National POTW

KANSAS CITY  — Texas Wesleyan University junior Makena Junkin has been named the NAIA Women's Golfer of the Week for the third time in her career and the second time during the 2025-26 season, earning the honor dated March 18 following her resilient victory at the Kona Ice Keiser Kup, held last week at Okeeheelee Golf Club.

Hailing from Burleson, Texas, Junkin secured her third individual win of the 2025-26 campaign in a highly competitive field at the tournament hosted by Keiser University (Fla.).

The 2025 NAIA First-Team All-American completed the 54-hole event with a total score of 222 (6-over par), highlighted by a closing 1-under-par round of 71 that propelled her to a three-stroke victory. She began with a first-round 77 and followed with a second-round 74 (2-over par).

This triumph represents Junkin's eighth collegiate victory, tying her with Alex Schies (2015-18) for the most in Texas Wesleyan program history. She previously received this NAIA accolade earlier this season on September 17—the second of the current campaign—and first claimed the honor last season on March 5, 2025.
