FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Jessica Watton has been named Red River Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the period of August 23-29.
Watton, a sophomore forward from Royal Oak, MI, started the season with two goals in the Lady Rams' 4-0 shutout of Howard Payne University (TX). She scored in the 42nd and 78th minutes of the game to put Texas Wesleyan at 1-0 on the season.
Watton shared the award with Teresa Monsivais of Texas College who also scored a pair of goals in her first game. Monsivais was the difference in a 2-1 win over Central Baptist College (MO).
UT-Brownsvile’s Aleisha Cassie was named Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Scorpions to a 1-0-1 start to the season.
Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Saturday in their home opener. They will take on Ouachita Baptist University at Martin Field at 12:00 p.m.
