Comets Nip Rams, 2-1

Box Score

RICHARDSON, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (0-3) suffered a 2-1 loss for the third time this season.  This time the defeat came at the hands of the University of Texas at Dallas (1-0) on Wednesday.

After a lengthy lightning delay, the Comets struck early when Bryan Shiba netted UTD’s first goal of the season off a pass from Billie Dixon just 8:44 into the contest.

That proved to be the lone tally of the first half.  In the second period, UTD hit the Rams quickly again.  Michael Anyirah scored on an assist from Michael Darrow in the 51st minute.

In the 72nd minute the Rams were shown their sixth card of the match (compared to just one for UTD).  That was Cameron Stapleton’s second yellow and the Rams played shorthanded for the remainder of the game.  After a UTD foul in the box, Rafael Franco netted Texas Wesleyan’s lone goal on a penalty kick in the 88th minute.

The Comets outshot the Rams 20-6 and led 7-1 in corner kicks.  #Dominick Gutierrez# made eight saves in the loss.

The Rams will return to action on Wednesday, as they take the field in front of the home fans for the first time.  They will host Ouachita Baptist at 2:00 p.m.
