FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (5-3-2, 2-0-1 RRAC) played to a 1-1 draw against conference rival University of Texas at Brownsville (5-3-2, 3-0-1) on Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Martin Field on Saturday night.

The Rams wore pink warm-up shirts in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month in conjunction with the Fort Worth Fire Department.

Texas Wesleyan entered the match with an all-time record of 0-6-1 against Brownsville. The Rams only draw versus the Scorpions was a 0-0 draw in the 2007 RRAC Championship game.

The two teams entered the match undefeated in conference play and traded runs throughout the first half.  The foul calling was a tad lop-sided early in the first half with Texas Wesleyan getting five consecutive calls from the 13th to the 17th minutes.

Both teams continued to play moderately rough when Javier Padilla was given a yellow card in the 30th minute. The Rams struck gold in the 31st minute with a beautiful header put in by TJ Romaguera played from Ivan Kovacevic, giving the Rams a 1-0 half time lead.

In the second half, the Scorpions gave Wesleyan all they had, and for most of the second half the Rams' defending was solid. The Scorpions kept making runs though, and finally in the 78th minute Brownsville put in the equalizer with a goal from Leigh Veidman off of a rebound.

Texas Wesleyan gave up nothing else and sent the game into overtime. Both teams could not gain an advantage in either overtime period and the Scorpions escaped the Rams in a 1-1 draw.

With the tie, the Rams snapped a Brownsville streak of 34 straight conference wins, and 44 straight wins against conference opponents including non-conference and post season dating back to the nil-nil draw in the RRAC Championship game in 2007 against the Rams. It was also the latest the Scorpions have scored when trailing in a conference match (79th minute).

Dejan Milosevic picked up 7 saves for the Rams in the draw, as the Scorpions outshot the Rams 29-20. The foul count ended with Wesleyan picking up 21 to Brownsville’s 15. The two teams also had a caution each.

The Rams will take the short trip to Cedar Hill to battle another conference rival in Northwood on Thursday, October 6. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
