Morrison's Walk-Off Single Lifts Rams to Win

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (11-9) got home runs from Eric Epperson and Joseph Lassiter and a walk-off single from Glen Morrison in a 6-5 win over East Central University (5-13) at LaGrave Field on Tuesday.
 
The Tigers used a sac fly from Ethan Gold to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning. In the bottom of the frame, Taylor Jockers led off with a single up the middle and Epperson gave the Rams the lead with a two-run home run.
 
An RBI single from Gold tied the game in the top of the third. After a Tiger error extended the bottom of the third, Morrison delivered an RBI single to put the Rams back on top, 3-2.
 
The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the seventh and took a 4-3 lead with a passed ball and an RBI groundout from Gold.  Jonathan Ramos pushed the lead to 5-3 with an RBI double in the eighth.
 
Lassiter brought the Rams within a run when he led off the bottom of the eighth with a solo shot to left field. With two down in the eighth, the Rams tied the contest with back-to-back doubles from Christian Soberanes and Patrick Melton.
 
With two outs in the ninth, Stephen Niedwiecki ripped a single up the middle and Lassiter followed with a single to center. That brought Morrison to the plate, who delivered a game-winning single through the left side.
 
Patrick Stanley (2-0) earned the win with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief work. Andrew Cooper started for the Rams received no decision after allowing two runs on four hits in 5.2 innings.
 
Morrison picked up three of Texas Wesleyan’s 13 hits. Lassiter went 2-for-5 at the plate, while Soberanes was 2-for-3.
 
The Rams will return to action with a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series Friday and Saturday against Huston-Tillotson University. Friday’s game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start at LaGrave Field with Saturday’s doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
