Warriors Take Two from Rams

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (25-15, 15-8 RRAC) was swept in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader against Bacone College (9-25, 6-14) on Saturday. The Warriors won with scores of 6-1 and 4-0.
 
In game one, the Rams spotted the Warriors two first inning runs on three walks and an error. A bases-loaded walk in the second pushed the Bacone lead to 3-0.
 
Texas Wesleyan got on the scoreboard in the third inning with an RBI single from Taylor JockersDerek Vaughn settled in for the rams and kept the Warriors off the scoreboard until an RBI sinlge from David Consuegra brought the score to 4-1 in the top of the seventh inning. The Rams appeared to have gotten out of the inning with a double-play ball, but a throwing error extended the frame and Bacone added two more runs in the seventh.
 
Vaughn (4-3) allowed six runs, one earned, on five hits and four walks in 6.1 innings. Lawrence Lasenberry (3-5) picked up the win after allowing one run on five hits and three walks in a complete seven-inning effort.
 
Patrick Melton went 2-for-2 at the plate in the game one loss.
 
The Warriors struck first in game two as well. Lester Gonzalez slapped an RBI triple down the right field line in the third inning. A bloop single from Casey Gillespie brought two more runs around, and the Warriors led 3-0.
 
Meanwhile Jesse Fish stranded eight Texas Wesleyan base runners through the first five innings.
 
A solo homer from Reydel Gonzalez brought the score to 4-0 in the eighth inning.
 
Fish (2-1) tossed six shutout innings, allowing three hits and five walks. Colton Farrar (3-5) took the loss after surrendering three runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings pitched.
 
Christian Soberanes went 2-for-4 in the game two loss.
 
The two teams will complete their three-game series on Sunday. That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start at Sycamore Park.
