FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team will be hosting Hometown Heroes Night at Martin Field when they take on Central Christian College on Saturday, September 10.
The Rams will honor members of the local fire and police departments as well as a color guard detail from the United States Marine Corps. Fans are invited to join in celebrating these hometown heroes while remembering the tenth anniversary of the attacks on September 11, 2001. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start following the women’s game at 5:30 p.m.
“Being able to show our appreciation to those who selflessly put their lives on the line day in and day out is the least we can do as a society,” said head coach Tyler Powell. “First responders are constantly overworked and underpaid, but they do it for the greater good of the community. By having an appreciation night, we can show our students how important their piece of the puzzle is for a well-run society. I am thankful for all that they do, and I am happy that Texas Wesleyan is able to say ‘thank you’ as a school.”
The night will take on a special meeting for the Rams who have three Marines in the program. Assistant Coach Jody Ellsworth and freshman goalkeeper
Antonio Sifuentes (reserves) are both currently Marines, while Assistant Coach Cody Powell is a former U.S. Marine and current member of the Lewisville Fire Department.
In addition the Rams have announced a change on the schedule. The game with St. Gregory’s scheduled for September 6, has been cancelled. The Rams will now play host to Dallas Christian College on September 6. That game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.
