FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (37-13, 20-6 RRAC) sit firmly in the third spot in the conference standings after completing a sweep of Wiley college (5-33, 4-22 RRAC) at LaGrave Field on Saturday. The Rams got a 6-1 win in game one before ripping the Wildcats 13-0 in the game two.

The Rams got a rally going in the third inning, loading the bases with two outs. Joel Rickman placed a shot perfectly in the left center gap for a bases clearing, three RBI double to brake the scoreless tie for a 3-0 lead.

The Wildcats got a run back in the fifth inning after a Felix Nunez single through the left side led to a Robert Zaragoza RBI double to deep straight away center field to make it a 3-1 game.

Texas Wesleyan came right back and put a run up in the bottom half of the inning on a Jake Howeth RBI single to right center after David Kiriakos put down a well bunted single and advanced on an error. Howeth stole second and worked his way around to score on a wild pitch and a passed ball for a 5-1 lead.

Wesleyan added a run in the sixth on a 6-3 RBI putout for a 6-1 advantage that would be good enough for the win.

Cory Bafidis (4-1) got the complete game win. He tossed seven innings, allowing a run on six hits, had no walks and five strikeouts.

The Rams honored ten seniors in between games for their contribution and leadership to the Texas Wesleyan baseball program. All ten seniors contributed greatly to the 37-13 record and the 23-4 home record this season. The seniors have a combined 101 wins and a home record of 53-26.

In game two the Rams took advantage of some very costly Wildcat errors and Kiriakos, Henry Yates, and Brian White all scored on errors for a 3-0 lead.

It was all Wesleyan as the Rams got two runs off errors in the second inning for a five run lead. The Rams scored in the fourth on a Dusteyn Suttle RBI double to left center, and a Ramser Munoz RBI single up the middle. Mixed in between were more wildcat errors as they piled on four more errors in the inning, and the Rams took full advantage to extend the lead to 8-0.

Yates made it an 11-0 game with a three run smash over the left field wall in the fifth inning to add insult to injury for Wiley.

The Wildcats continued to commit errors at an abysmal rate with another in the seventh that lead to two more runs in the seventh. After pinch hitter Cory Holt beat the left fielder for a stand up double, Alex Padilla hit a single down the right field line to set up a runner in scoring position. A Wiley error sent a runner home, and Jake Davis hit a RBI sacrifice fly for a 13-0 lead.

Wiley College made eight errors as most of the Wesleyan runs were unearned, as the Rams pour on the runs to take a 13-0 win and sweep the Wildcats in the senior day home series finale.

Sam Martin (10-0) stayed spotless pitching five scoreless innings, allowing only three hits, giving up one walk while striking out six.

“We’ve been a senior led team this year…” commented head coach Mike Jeffcoat after the Rams took their fifth consecutive conference series sweep, “…and it has shown with success we’ve had. We expect them to continue their leadership into the postseason.”

The Rams will play one more regular season game against Oklahoma City University on Monday, April 22 staring at 4:00 pm in Oklahoma City.
