FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University's
Ricky Dotson and
Matthew Killam are set to represent the United States of America at this week's 2016
World University Championships in Brive, France.
The event is being held at the Golf Club de Brive Planchetorte June 23-26. Dotson, who serves as Associate Head Golf Coach at Texas Wesleyan, will lead the U.S. team, while Killam, a rising senior, is one of three players on the team.
Opening Ceremonies for the tournament are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday (Brive is seven hours ahead of Central Daylight Time). The tournament, featuring teams from 21 nations, will tee-off at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday. Play will consist of four rounds and a total of 72 holes. Each three-man team will drop its highest score each day. On Sunday, one team champion as well as one individual champion will be decided.

The World University Championships are part of the events of the International University Sports Federation. The event is organized in every even-numbered year. Golf was first introduced to the event in 1986, making 2016 the 16th World University Golf Championship.
Texas Wesleyan Men's Golf is one of the most storied programs in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). In 61 years of membership, the Rams have qualified for the NAIA National Championship 54 times and posted 51 top-10 finishes. Their six national titles are the second most by any one institution while their 10 runner-up finishes and their 10 individual champions are both records.
Dotson is in his third season with the program. He was promoted to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2015-16 season. He also served three seasons as assistant men's basketball coach at Texas Wesleyan and 21 seasons as an assistant under his father Dale Dotson at Lon Morris College.
Killam will be joined on the team by JD Lehman from the University of Louisville and Austin Sverdum from Embry-Riddle University. This season, Killam was named to the Sooner Athletic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll as well as Academic All-Conference while helping the Rams to a 4th place finish at the NAIA National Championships. Killam participated in eight varsity events, posting three top-10 finishes and a scoring average of 74.67. His top performances came at the San Antonio Shootout at TPC San Antonio and at Grand View University's Viking Classic at the Tournament Club of Iowa where he finished third.
Spain is the defending champion at the World University Golf Championships while the United States finished 10th in Crans-Montana, Switzerland in 2014.
