Box Score BETHANY, OK - Four different players had a goal or an an assist Saturday afternoon in Oklahoma, helping Texas Wesleyan University Women's Soccer (9-3, 3-1) to a 3-0 shutout win over Southwestern Christian, who fell to 1-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play (7-4-1 overall).
The Lady Rams should apply for a patent on goal-scoring in the first six minutes. They got another against the Eagles in the sixth minute - Cheyenne Moore - off her head and the foot of
Tameir Grosvenor, who took the corner kick. It took a while for Texas Wesleyan to get another point on the board, but the offense came to life down the stretch.
79th minute:
Tameir Grosvenor beat the back line and then beat the keeper from six yards out to put the Lady Rams up 2-0. 89th minute:
Lynzie Moore rocketed a shot from the top off the 18-yard box, assisted by
Cat Smith.
After Grosvenor scored all three goals in a shutout win over Oklahoma City, seeing more of her teammates put balls in the back of the net was a luxury. The Lady Rams are now one win away from 10 in 2018, which would be the third-consecutive season with double-digit wins, and the eighth in the last nine years.
Texas Wesleyan out-shot Southwestern Christian 14-11 and drew two yellow cards on Lady Eagles. Both teams had chances to score more but posts and crossbars were not kind. In the 36th minute, SCU's Emily Anderson nailed one off the crossbar five minutes after
Katie Baugh had one rattle back just a touch high. Eight minutes from Baugh's near goal, Grosvenor bounced one off the post.
Goalkeeping continues to be a stellar point of emphasis.
Christy Zwart had two first half saves - both in the final minute - while
Lauren Bond saved three, all just before the Lady Rams took a 2-0 lead. It's now been 247 minutes since Texas Wesleyan surrendered a goal, the longest the team has gone without giving up a goal since the team recorded three-straight shutouts from September 16-22 in 2016.
Southwesern Christian continues their struggles against Texas Wesleyan - with the win Saturday, the Lady Rams have now beaten the Eagles in all seven all-time matchups.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lady Rams will try to extend their winning and shutout streak in Waxahachie Tuesday night against the Southwestern Assemblies of God Lady Lions, who have also never beaten the Lady Rams - 12 tries.
